Literature for Life is a prestigious Los Angeles based online literary journal, salon and resource for middle and high school educators designed to spark a love of reading and writing. We publish two issues, annually. Each issue features 10-20 stories, articles and poems spanning multiple genres. The works are accompanied by original illustrations created primarily by local artists, and curriculum writers develop middle, high school, and college curriculum for educators to use for teaching the stories.
Literature for Life accepts written work in all genres we value diversity and our authors span a broad variety of ages and backgrounds. Most of our featured works are set in Los Angeles, though we do accept some non-Los Angeles based pieces each issue.
Literature for Life was founded by author Jervey Tervalon to bring excellent contemporary literature to Los Angeles classrooms. Past authors include such luminaries such as Janet Fitch, Michael Jaime-Becerra, Jonathan Gold, Erin Aubry Kaplan, Aimee Bender and more.
